Welcome to our Day School Program! We are honored that you have chosen Brazos Valley Day School for your child’s early education and care during these important preschool and kindergarten years.

We believe that young children possess tremendous curiosity and an innate ability to learn. Our goal is to foster these qualities and support your child’s growth and development. As educators and mothers ourselves, we prioritize a strong educational foundation and a safe, nurturing environment for children to thrive. I truly believe your child will be well cared for, receiving a quality education while enjoying their learning experience. I am proud to say that our students will be thoroughly prepared for the primary grades, both academically and in terms of social and emotional skills.

Our Philosophy

Young children learn best through their senses: feeling, smelling, tasting, and engaging in questioning, explaining, and listening. They gain knowledge through hands-on experiences and active participation. Therefore, activities in preschool and kindergarten will focus on using concrete, manipulative materials and equipment, such as blocks, water, sand, cooking supplies, arts and crafts materials, puzzles, rhythm instruments, animals for pets, gardening tools, as well as field trips and classroom visitors.

Our mission is to provide a program for children in preschool, pre-K, and kindergarten that meets their individual needs while also fostering a sense of community.

We plan for the total child to grow

Intellectually

Thinking skills are developed as children make decisions, observe, recall, see relationships and predict outcomes.
Mathematical perceptions and concepts develop as children:
build with blocks
work with carpentry tools and supplies
measure for cooking
chart activities and interests
record the date and/or weather on a calendar/chart
receive direct instruction in number concepts.
Science concepts occur as children:
care for pets
observe seasonal changes
carry out science and cooking experiences and experiments
grow in an ever deepening understanding and appreciation of our natural world
Formal reading preparation is important at each level. Teachers plan:
stories
poetry
music
listening for rhymes and beginning sounds
the keeping of charts and lists
the recording of experiences in story form, etc.
Kindergartners sometimes come to school already reading. Others begin to read during their kindergarten year. We encourage the the sounding out of words, learning sight words, and the recording of their own words on charts, cards, signs, painting, etc.

Physically

Small muscle skills develop as children use their hands and eyes together in many experiences:
at the carpentry table
building with blocks
dressing dolls
working puzzles
stringing beads, etc.
Writing skills develop as children write their names, simple messages, letters, numerals, draw pictures, etc.
Large muscle development is planned for through use of outdoor equipment and activities.
We consider the outside area to be as essential as the inside classroom to the children's physical, emotional, and spiritual growth. Self-esteem in young children is closely related to how well they use their bodies... therefore, we aim for strength, coordination, confidence and flexibility.

Spiritually

Our school is a Christian school. Each child is seen as a child of God... to be loved, led, taught and helped to see and respect the needs of others.
During our weekly chapel children experience Christian fellowship through songs, Bible stories and prayer. We teach children that God is creator and mighty and loves all of His creation and sent His son Jesus to demonstrate His love for us. Parents and siblings are welcome to attend.

Parents & Teachers

We share the responsibility with parents for promoting healthy growth during a time when children experience the most rapid growth and learning of their entire lives. Our goal is to encourage comfortable and open communication so that parents and teachers can work together as a consistent team, supporting the needs of children, parents, and teachers alike.
